Glazed or polido leather (also called "rectified skin"), is a waterproof leather, covered with patent giving a shiny side to the leather. This type of leather requires very little care. Indeed, as this leather no longer has the pores (flower) of a standard leather, waxing, or any other cleaning product, will not penetrate the leather. A simple soft, slightly damp cloth will do the job of properly cleaning your shiny shoes.

In order to maintain your glossy leather shoes in the best possible way, we invite you to follow the tips below:

Get your shoes ready!

First, remove the laces from your shoes. This will allow you to access every nook and cranny of your pair and will also prevent your laces from getting dirty. Place your shoes under shoetrees. The installation under shoe trees at this stage allows you to continue cleaning your shoes under the best conditions. Indeed, your pair will regain its original shape and it will then be easier to take care of it.

Start the cleaning !

As mentioned above, glazed leather requires very light maintenance and is very different from unglazed leather. Carefully wrap your soft cloth around your index finger and middle finger. Make sure that the soft cloth, the inside part of your fingers, is not wrinkled. Add a few drops of water to your cloth, then apply it to your shoe.

Caution: it is strongly discouraged to apply a wax or cream on your glossy or polished leather. This will reduce the shiny effect of the polido and give your shoe a pasty, greasy and not elegant look.

Make them shine!

The last step in caring for your glossy leather shoes is to polish them. With an energetic gesture, brush your pair with a polishing glove. Made of real lamb, the polishing glove is much softer than a polishing brush. It will notably make it possible not to leave traces, or scratches on your pair of shoes, in order to keep them in the best possible condition.

It is recommended to maintain glazed leather at least once a month, i.e. every 4 to 5 ports. This takes into account the alternation of your shoes. Indeed, just like a more classic leather shoe, it is strongly recommended to alternate your glossy or patent leather shoes so that the leather can rest, breathe and relax.

Although it requires very little care, glazed leather is a fragile but strong leather. For example, it will be difficult to minimize signs of wear and tear (scratches, marks, creaking). However, since leather is stiffer than full grain calf leather, comfort folds will tend to be reduced.

This type of leather is already shiny, so glazing cannot be done on glazed or polido leather.
