Here we are! Wedding season is fast approaching. Whether you're the groom, best man, or guest, you'll need a pair of elegant and comfortable shoes to match this happy occasion.
If you're still undecided about your shoe choices or simply don't know which colors will best complement your suit, we'll help you find the best combinations. We'll tell you everything:
Shoes to pair with a gray suit
The gray suit is a classic, whether solid or patterned. Since this color is neutral, it pairs easily with many different shoe colors.
However, it works particularly well with warmer colors, which stand out visually by contrasting with it. So, opt for dark brown, burgundy, and navy blue tones.
Here is our selection:
For tailcoat suits, used more frequently for traditional and formal weddings, we are generally in gray palettes, so black shoes will be required.
Very sober, a one-cut Richelieu like the Broadway, Giulia or even a more classic Oxford will give you a very chic look!
Especially for a tailcoat suit, you need a shoe without embellishments. This is fairly similar to what is recommended for a tuxedo; see our advice below.
We present a complete catalog from size 5 to size 13.
Shoes to pair with a beige suit
For a rustic or bohemian wedding, for example, a natural linen suit in shades of beige/greige is a must-have. In this case, opt for suede calfskin. Olden Brown Suede , Elvis Brown Suede or Whitney Brown Suede will be as comfortable as they are elegant.
Leather is also acceptable for linen. We'll then direct you toward loafers. Worn without socks, our Marco loafers with a linen suit (or even a more formal one, for that matter) will allow you to look very elegant.
For a beach wedding, Dandy or Will models in Navy Suede with a linen suit will be perfect and tasteful combinations.

Shoes to pair with a black suit
The black suit is a classic and timeless piece of men's clothing. It's not in bad taste, but simply inappropriate. Indeed, a wedding is a joyous day, so enhance this dull color with a touch of cheerfulness.
The only black allowed is the tuxedo!
Black is a no-no for the bride and groom, we don't recommend it for the witnesses, and if you are invited, then add some punch by adding color to the accessories, especially the shoes.
It's essential to contrast with, for example, burgundy, gray, or a gold patina. The color to avoid with a black suit is chocolate brown.
If you only have one suit and it's black, opt for lighter shades. Monk strap shoes are very trendy right now; the gold Cambridge, for example, will pair perfectly with and enhance the black tones. The weathered gray Feliciano will also work well for a more classic look. We recommend lightening your outfit with a lighter vest.
Our timeless pieces:
- Umberto Bordeaux Patina, Grey or Brown
For a touch of eccentricity, and only if you're not the groom-to-be, the Diplomat Gold will liven up a classic black suit. Pair it with a beautiful matching belt for a brighter look.

Shoes to pair with a tuxedo
We're the epitome of a tailcoat wedding, tasteful but understated. If it's an evening suit, a tuxedo may be appropriate.
A tuxedo means James Bond, and therefore, black shoes. You can add a touch of elegance with patent leather shoes; they'll perfectly accentuate the shape of your tuxedo while adding a special touch to your outfit.
Here is our selection:
- Campoli Vernis Noir , the Finsbury patent leather shoe par excellence

Shoes to pair with a blue suit
Let's be clear, navy blue isn't very common for weddings these days. More formal and conventional, the navy blue suit is less popular for weddings, and we don't recommend it for the groom, witnesses, or guests.
The blues offered by tailors are in shades of dark blue and royal blue, more contemporary (Emmanuel Macron's blue for example).
This color, loved by all, goes well with both colors and materials!
In fact, with a blue suit you can wear both suede (calfskin) and classic hand-patinated leather models, which multiplies the possibilities.
For the shoe color, here are our recommendations: BROWN! In all its shades, brown will go perfectly with a blue suit like the Consul Walnut Patina or Elvis Walnut .
Looking for a change from brown shoes? For more casual weddings, opt for shades of blue or choose a style that's a radical contrast, like burgundy. It's got to be something that stands out!

An unusual wedding?
Feeling like breaking the mold and opting for an unusual wedding? What if you wore a pair of sneakers for your wedding? Stand out from the crowd and make your wedding a real change from the usual by choosing our white sneakers for your big day!
Our Riva White sneakers are a thing of beauty! They would be perfect for a rock 'n' roll, unconventional wedding or simply as a second part of the evening.
To recap, here are the rules to follow
- Always associate:
o The belt with the shoes
o The tie with the pocket square
- Never more than 3 colors
- Never tone on tone (blue suit, blue shoes) It is rather allowed to stay in the same tones/shades (light blue suit, dark blue shoes)
- And above all, be comfortable in your shoes, it's going to be a long day so you need to feel comfortable.
Finally, in an era where all the codes are being reworked, we must not forbid ourselves anything but exchange to avoid falling into the faux pas, which can be fatal on that day. So ask our sales staff for advice ! The best way to find what you need and to be sure that the model suits you is to come to the store with your costume or a photo.
There's bound to be a store near you; we have 75 points of sale in France, as well as in Belgium and Luxembourg. So, don't hesitate to visit us; our sales staff will be more than happy to welcome you and advise you, because we're confident that at Finsbury, you'll find the perfect fit.
